Prior to the strike by doctors, all hospitals and medical colleges were coming under the purview of the Right to Health Bill. Only hospitals with less than 50 beds were excluded from its scope. However, now, even large private hospitals have come under the purview of this bill. Only 5% of private hospitals in Rajasthan will remain outside the purview of this bill.

Private hospitals that have received land from the government free of cost or on a subsidized basis will also come under this purview, but only those that have accepted the terms and conditions of the MOU with the government to work for it in the future. Hospitals that do not have such conditions in their MOU will not be included in this bill.

Private medical colleges have been included in this purview. As a result, 9 medical colleges in Rajasthan will come under the purview of the Right to Health Bill. Despite the strike by private doctors, private medical colleges have been included in the scope of this bill. This is because medical colleges have medical students who require patients for practice. Keeping this in mind, they have been included in this bill. If they remain within the purview of the bill, patients will continue to come to the colleges. That is why private medical colleges did not oppose this bill.

No one knows what the future holds for private hospitals in Rajasthan, as the government continues to push forward with its healthcare reform agenda. However, it is clear that the Right to Health Bill will have a significant impact on the healthcare landscape in the state.
