Despite Late-Night Agreement, Doctors Continue Protest Today
Doctors in Jaipur, Rajasthan will stage another protest today against the Right to Health (RTH) bill. This will be the doctors' second demonstration in the last ten days. A large rally was held in Jaipur on March 27th to protest against the bill.
After this rally, it is possible that doctors may announce an end to their protest by meeting with the Chief Minister or Chief Secretary. Late last night, a delegation of doctors met with the Chief Secretary and an agreement was reached to end the protest.
The meeting resulted in a decision that hospital administrators who did not receive any relief from the government would be exempted from the purview of this bill. Dr. Vijay Kapoor, Secretary of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Society, said that today's rally will be similar to the one held on March 27th. The rally will start from the Residents Hostel Ground at SMS Medical College at 11 am.
The rally will proceed through Gokhale Hostel Road, Tonk Road, Maharani College Intersection, Ashok Marg, Rajput Sabha Bhawan, Panch Batti, MI Road, Ajmeri Gate, New Gate, and Albert Hall before arriving at SMS Medical College. Doctors from all districts of the state have been called to make this rally successful. After this rally, a meeting of our struggle committee will be held to discuss the future course of action.
